How can you be bright?
How can you be bold?
To do what you feel, without being told
To shine like the sun, in your own special way
Without fearing your glare will get in their way
With your rays unapologetic
I know, some people just won't get it
You are a beautiful soul, without even trying
When you keep yourself small, I can hear something in you crying
Start by being respectful to yourself, naturally that will flow to others
Soon enough you will be more than kind to your fellow brothers
Alas, please remember to brighten someone's day
Even if sometimes we forget to say...
You are sunshine in human form
Peaking out of the clouds, after the storm
You bring the smile to their face
One that nobody even dare try and erase
I really encourage you to find ways
To try and bring beauty to people's days
If we are brilliant and bright without really trying
Imagine what would happen if we started flying...
Fluttering through the day like a butterfly with wings
Or even a bee with their pollen, although sometimes they sting
Soaring around with your essence, people stop and smile
Something as small as complimenting their style
Be someone's sunshine, throughout the course of your day
I know in my heart, you will find your very own way
Because life is better with kind words and beautiful colors
That radiate magically, like no other
Like Jhene said, "I'll take some rain with my sunshine"
Of course the rain will come, but it will all be more than fine
Because without the sun there is no life
With only darkness there is too much strife
Be the sunshine in someone's day
Because the light will always help us define our own way

Standing in the graveyard with all the versions of myself who have died before this moment
Some were more abrupt than others
Ego deaths
Sudden deaths
Slow and pain filled deaths
Some of them try to haunt me
A few of them just want to taunt me
I let them come and watch them go
Now is not their time, I know they know
One day this version of me will join them
The cemetery seems packed to the brim
Although, I know it will never fill
This life and the next
They vow to put me to the test
I wonder if they will ever rest
I hear them out
They have so much to say
The wisdom they have taken from their days
“Don’t do this, You’ve already tried that…”
They say it all so matter of fact
They know my secrets and I hold their soul
I give it my all, they refrain from scold
They may be haphazard, even vicious some seem
But all of these versions have led me, to me
I honor them, and pray for her
The little scrappy girl, who’s mouth gets the best of her
You are resilient, you are strong
One day, will you just… belong?
No baby, you weren’t meant to fit in
It’s okay, it isn’t a sin
To just be who you are, unlike any other
Okay, okay, maybe just a little like your mother
